Gas Power Plant Development
Aegis Power Solutions designs, permits and develops gas-fired power plants for a range of purposes. The right plant depends on what the power has to do: cover grid peaks, sell into wholesale markets, run a data center, anchor a microgrid, or supply a district energy system. We help owners choose the configuration, then take the project through engineering, permitting and development.
WHAT WE DEVELOP
Peaker plants that run during grid spikes and capacity events. Wholesale power plants that sell into the market. Data center power, sized and staged to the load. Microgrid power sources for industrial campuses and remote sites. District energy supply for multi-building or multi-tenant sites.
SINGLE CYCLE, COMBINED CYCLE OR COMBINED HEAT AND POWER
The three main gas plant designs differ in how they handle waste heat, and that drives efficiency, cost and use case.
Single cycle gas turbine (SCGT): produces electricity only and vents exhaust heat to the atmosphere. Typical total efficiency is 30% to 40%. It starts in minutes, which makes it the standard choice for peaker plants and grid spikes.
Combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT): produces electricity only, but captures exhaust heat to drive a steam turbine. Typical efficiency is 50% to 60% or more. Startup takes hours, so it suits plants that run for long periods.
Combined heat and power (CHP): produces electricity and usable heat or cooling by capturing the exhaust for direct thermal use. Combined efficiency is typically 70% to 85% or more, and startup speed depends on the engine. It suits sites with steady heat demand, such as industrial plants, campuses and district energy.
HOW TO CHOOSE
Choose single cycle when speed and low capital cost matter more than efficiency. Choose combined cycle when the plant will run most hours and fuel cost dominates. Choose CHP when there is a real use for the heat, because that is where the highest overall efficiency comes from. Many projects combine approaches, and we model them against your load, fuel price, interconnection and permitting limits before recommending one.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the difference between SCGT, CCGT and CHP?
SCGT vents waste heat and is the fastest to start. CCGT turns that heat into more electricity. CHP uses it for heating or cooling. Efficiency rises from roughly 30% to 40% for SCGT, to 50% to 60% or more for CCGT, to 70% to 85% or more for CHP when the heat is fully used.
Does Aegis Power Solutions handle permitting?
Yes. We design, permit and develop gas power plants, including air permits and interconnection applications.
Which type is right for a data center?
It depends on the load shape and timeline. Fast-starting units can bridge to grid power, while CHP or combined cycle suits steady, long-running loads. Call us at (855) 234-4787 and we will walk through your site.
